How to build a positive energy in your Ashford hom

This January if you are feeling like a change around in your home is necessary, why not take a look at Feng Shui to start the year off with positive energy!

What is Feng Shui exactly? “Feng Shui is the practice of arranging pieces in living spaces to create balance with the natural world. This is what it means to feng shui your home. The goal is to harness energy forces and establish harmony between an individual and their environment.” (TheSpruce.com)

Start with the entrance to your home. Remove any items which are in the way, it’s important to have a clear pathway in and out of the home. By having an inviting and spacious area around the door means the energy cannot be collected by items and be blocked before it enters the home. This area should be bright and airy, so for this if your home doesn’t have much natural light you could use lighter coloured walls and cosy lamps to warm the home.

Next focus will be your windows. Windows within a home symbolise the adults eyes and a children’s voice. The windows should be clean to allow as much sunlight as possible in, as this will make you feel more energised. Use lighter colours in home décor for the home to feel brighter.

Don’t forget the doors, they are just as important as the windows! In Feng Shui, doors represent how opportunities are entered into the home as well as your voice and communication. To maximise opportunity flowing to you, don’t leave things behind the door, it is advised they are open to the full 90 degrees.

Positioning yourself in relation to the door is also vital. When moving furniture such as your bed and your desk, place it in the ‘command position’, which is a place in the room that empowers you. This is an area in the room where you have a direct view of the door and an overview of the room. Why? It optimises the amount of energy you receive and supports your need for that room. For example, if your bed is in the command position, it will help you to find peace and in your office, it will help you concentrate.

Do you have a clear path around your home? When you think about how you navigate around your home, do you come across things in your way? Your daily path must be clear, as this is your Feng Shui space layout. A sense of clear, tidy space around the home always sets a relaxed, calm tone. Use this to get rid of items you no longer use or need. When you create a new space in Feng Shui you are allowing new opportunities to flow in. It’s important to remember that if you use the space for something else, that is ok, that is how life works. Much like clearing the physical space, energetic space can also be cleared, this is called space blessing.

Lastly, how green is your home? House plants are not only good for creating better air quality but also bring a higher sense of energy according to Feng Shui as they embody life energy. Remember to use the right plants for the right space, some house plants will need longer periods of sunlight than others, some are poisonous to pets, so research before you buy.

Feng Shui whilst not practised by everyone can be appreciated by all. If you are thinking of selling your home in the near future, it can be a way to organise your home in a way that is welcoming and fresh! As estate agents, we always find that homes which are clean, spacious and tidy allow potential homeowners to visualise themselves in the home easier than homes which are darker and more cluttered.
